"**What this part does**
Vents excess pressure from the compressor if the discharge pressure becomes dangerously high, protecting the compressor, hoses and the rest of the system from bursting.
**Where it is installed**
The Compressor Pressure Relief Valve (fine thread) is located screwed into the compressor housing or cylinder head, connecting the discharge (high-pressure) side to the outside.
**Symptoms of a failed relief valve**
A worn or damaged relief valve shows up as one or more of these symptoms:
- A sudden loss of refrigerant through the valve, often with an oil mist thrown out
- System pressure never builds up again and there is no cooling after a pressure spike
- Valve stuck open — the system leaks continuously and loses refrigerant
- Valve stuck closed — no safety protection left, risking hose or compressor rupture
- Oil weeping around the valve thread
**When to replace**
Replace the valve if it has vented, if it is leaking, or after any severe over-pressure event. Always find and fix the cause of the over-pressure first (overcharge, fan fault, blocked condenser).
**Why choose this part**
Supplied as a direct replacement for the original part. Always compare the dimensions, hole layout and finish with your original part before ordering.
**Ordering note**
Relief valves are matched by thread size, opening pressure and body style. Confirm the thread and the opening pressure match the original valve.
