"**What this part does**
Supports the main shaft and takes the radial load from the swash plate and pistons so the shaft stays on centre while it turns.
**Where it is installed**
The Main Shaft Bearing (long) is located in the cylinder block / front cover, supporting the compressor main shaft.
**Symptoms of a failed bearing**
A worn or damaged bearing shows up as one or more of these symptoms:
- Rumbling or growling from the compressor that rises and falls with engine speed
- Shaft play when the pulley is rocked; the shaft is no longer held on centre
- Vibration through the A/C hoses and the compressor body
- Piston / cylinder wear from the shaft running off centre, giving falling cooling performance
- Discoloured, dry or pitted race when the compressor is opened
**When to replace**
Replace during any compressor overhaul, or as soon as play or roughness is found. Renew the shaft seal, O-rings and oil at the same time.
**Why choose this part**
Supplied as a direct replacement for the original part. Always compare the dimensions, hole layout and finish with your original part before ordering.
**Ordering note**
Main bearings are matched by bore, outside diameter and width. Compare all three with the original bearing before ordering.
