"**What this part does**
Sets the running clearance (end float / pre-load) of the rotating assembly, so the shaft and bearings run with the correct clearance and the right amount of compression.
**Where it is installed**
The Shim / Adjusting Washer (small) is located between the shaft, swash plate / bearing and the housing, where the running clearance is set.
**Symptoms of a failed shim**
A worn or damaged shim shows up as one or more of these symptoms:
- Too much clearance — shaft end-float, rattle and premature shaft-seal wear
- Too little clearance — drag, heat build-up and rapid bearing wear
- Wrong thickness shim fitted during a previous rebuild
- Scored or crushed shim found when the compressor is opened
**When to replace**
Replace with the same thickness, and measure the shaft end-float to select the correct shim thickness when rebuilding.
**Why choose this part**
Supplied as a direct replacement for the original part. Always compare the dimensions, hole layout and finish with your original part before ordering.
**Ordering note**
Confirm the shim diameter and thickness match the original before ordering; thickness is measured in hundredths of a millimetre.
